Why are gleans transitioning to VolunteerHub?
The SLO Food Bank is centralizing all volunteer registrations and food inventory systems to maximize our community impact, ensure a consistent experience across all our programs. Moving to a single platform offers several benefits:
- One Platform for All: Using VolunteerHub for the Glean program integrates these harvests with our other opportunities, such as distributions, warehouse shifts, and events.
- Up-to-Date Documentation: This system allows us to maintain the most current liability waivers for every volunteer to ensure safety and compliance.
- Administrative Efficiency: This move simplifies volunteer and food inventory management, helping our team focus and maximize our resources toward our mission of alleviating hunger.
When will the transition to VolunteerHub take place?
Starting January 16, all gleaning opportunities will be listed exclusively on VolunteerHub. The legacy registration site will be retired on January 15.
Do I need to create a new account?
- If you have already signed up for volunteer shifts outside of the Glean program, such as at our warehouse or a distribution, you already have a VolunteerHub account. We encourage you to sign into your VolunteerHub account to ensure you have access prior to January 16.
- If you have only volunteered for gleaning in the past, please sign up for an account here by January 16 for a seamless transition.
How do I find and sign up for harvests on VolunteerHub?
- You can view all upcoming opportunities here. If you have not created an account in the past, click “Create an account” at the top right corner of the page. If you have an existing account, you can either sign in now at the link at the top right corner of the page or you’ll be prompted to sign in after you choose a volunteer shift.
- Once registered, return to the calendar. You can use the filters at the top to filter by volunteer opportunity type and slots remaining. Then, click on the shift that you’d like to sign up for.
- Read the description of the volunteer shift and then click the “Sign up” button. Sign the waiver and complete the registration.
- You’ll be taken to a page with additional shift information and be sent an automated email confirming your sign up.

Will the gleaning volunteer opportunities change?
No, you can expect the same amazing and fun gleaning volunteer opportunities you have always enjoyed. Our glean volunteer shifts and the specific activities we perform in the fields and orchards will not change.
What information will be provided for each shift?
Volunteers will still see all the essential details they are used to on both the sign-up confirmation page and in a confirmation email. This includes specific parking directions, what to bring to the site, and other relevant harvest instructions within the VolunteerHub glean shift listings.
